Disbanded SARS: Safety Advocacy Centre Calls for Commission of Inquiry And Reorientation.

A civil society organization at the forefront of Safety Rights activism in Nigeria, the Media Centre for Safety Reporting (MCSR), has called on the Police Service Commission to immediately constitute a Judicial Panel of Inquiry into the activities of the dissolved Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS).

The President of the Safety Advocacy Centre, John Thompson made this call in a chat with newsmen in Kano on Sunday, over the news of SARS dissolution by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Abubakar Adamu.

Thompson said “we were among the first group, if not the first to commend IGP for banning SARS last week. Don’t forget that our vice president, Alh. Abdullahi Wakawa in the statement he issued in Abuja, stated that the measure will go along way in repositioning the force for task of community policing and confidence building”.

The President maintained that “without Judicial Panel of Inquiry, the notorious image of Nigeria Police will remain at the infamous valley of disrepute”.

He once again commended the IGP for listening to the voice of the people but charged the Police Service Commission to “complement the transformational efforts of the IGP by setting up the Panel to fish out the bad eggs within the force, thereby paving a smooth path for reorientation and cordial community policing regime in the country”.
