Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 32-year-old refrigerator/air-conditioning technician, Toheeb Akanji, aka T.cash for allegedly stabbing to death a 42-year-old Babatunde Oladipupo, a member of one of the transport unions and land vendors in the state.
Giraffeglobal learnt that the suspect was arrested following a distress call received at Agbado divisional headquarters at about 12:30 midnight from one Oluomo.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said Oluomo had reported that one Oladipupo Babatunde, aka No story who came to Blue roof Hotel in Adiyan -Gasline, Agbado to celebrate with the hotel owner has been stabbed to death by an unknown person.
Acting on the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer, Agbado, CSP Kehinde Kuranga, quickly mobilised his men and moved to the scene.
When Oyeyemi got there, it was discovered that the deceased was lured out of the hotel and stabbed severally on the chest, hand and face.
He added that it was also discovered that the deceased struggled with his assailant which made him to seize the cardigan wore by the suspect as well as the knife he used to stab him.
The state police spokesman said further that the deceased was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead by the doctor.
Oyeyemi stated that the state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, who was immediately informed promptly directed that the suspect must be hunted for and brought to book within 24 hours.
Acting on the CP’s directive, the DPO and his men embarked on intelligence-based investigation, and at about 5p.m. on Saturday 25th of December 2021,the suspect was arrested.
Oyeyemi said, “During interrogation, the suspect confessed killing the deceased but blamed it on the devil.
“He stated that he came to the hotel to find out who beat and injured one of his boys, but on getting there, the deceased accosted him and started fighting with him. It was then he brought out the knife he came with and used it to stab him.”
Meanwhile, the CP has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
One of the closest friends of the deceased, Kamoru Adisa popularly known as Hakmed who spoke to us, described him as a very nice and God fearing person, who had the love of people at hearts.”Three days before he was gruesomely killed, he told me his plan to support his friends financially to uplift their businesses in January, 2022”.
