He was recently appointed as the Chairman, Caretaker Committee Of Labour Party, Ogun State, and he has been smarting in this elevation to the comity of Nigerian politics.
He spoke candidly to Akin Sokoya, Publisher/ Editor-In-Chief, Giraffeglobal. Excerpts…
Congratulations once again on your new appointment, could you officially introduce yourself?
My names are Michael Oluseyi Ashade, I’m an ordained pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God. Presently, I’m the chairman, state caretaker committee of the Labour Party in Ogun state. We have a tenure of 3-months to put things on ground in the first instance, which I don’t want to see an extension in preparation for the next elections. Every political element in Ogun state knows about LP but we just want to take it further and make it the first to reckon to reckon with for upcoming and viral politicians who are seeking for a credible platform to launch out and realize their political dreams at all levels, not only for governorship but even from the Ward levels, so that at every ward, LP will be a force to be reckoned with. That’s our dream as the chairman, caretaker committee in conjunction with my exco members.
Why did you join LP and not another party?
My friends asked me this questions and I also asked them too, why must it be PDP or APC too?. My answer to the question is, they also have their own beginning. LP has had their story and I also want to let you know that many of the gladiators in those party we mentioned have their inroad into Labour Party.
Otunba Gbenga Daniel has had an inroad into LP. You would find out that many of the gladiators’ political history will not be complete without mentioning LP. It’s unfortunate today, you may say LP is not a ruling party, we want to write the wrongs, we are working towards it, very soon, LP will come to rule Ogun state. LP is a platform like any other platform but what makes it different is who is who and who are there. We are trying to bring people with credibility and integrity into our party.
What’s your message to the electorate in the coming elections?
The electorate should be expectant of credible and viable choices. That’s what we are offering them from the platform of Labour Party. Enough of recycling people we all know their antecedents.
