Ambode’s Brother Escapes Murder…runs for Cover In The US
The unexpected massive defeat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) basically by Labour Party at the 2023 presidential election of February 25th in Lagos State is still registering huge and painful memories in the minds of APC party leaders, chieftains and members all over the state.
However, different comments are springing up on why the party, APC lost the state to the Labour Party. It is believed that some sorts of sabotage must be responsible for the painful loss. In Ikorodu, one of the politically volatile local government areas in the state, Ijede is an area that cannot be underestimated as far as voting is concerned. In that area, one name that rings loud bell in ears of political enthusiasts and analysts is Akinsoji Ambode. Guessing rightly, he is brother of former Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode.
Akinsoji was one of the party leaders of the APC in Ijede, Ikorodu LGA but cross carpeted to the Labour Party where he also maintained his leadership status as Ward Chairman.
However, the loss of APC in the state has coerced party leaders in Ikorodu axis to point accusing fingers at Akinsoji who they believed used his deep knowledge of the APC and must have allegedly passed secretive information to the LP, convincing voters to massively cast their ballots for the opposition party during the polls. Now that the presidential election is over and obviously, the Labour Party conquered the ruling APC, Akinsoji Ambode was declared wanted and as a matter of fact, his house situated on Alhaja Rafat-Matti Street, Ijede LCDA Ikorodu has been twice visited by suspected party thugs and assailants, seeking to terminate his life but as fate would have it, he has travelled to Houston Texas in the United States of America where he was prior and during the last election. His domicile in the US was what saves his life as he would have been murdered in cold blood, joining the long list of politically orchestrated murders rampant in Nigeria’s democracy since 1999.
Akinsoji Ambode is perceived as a betrayal who worked vehemently against the APC at the election and the party will do everything possible to eliminate him before the forthcoming governorship elections of March 18 to forestall a second electoral calamity both in Ijede, Ikorodu and Lagos State at large. The crux of the case as at this moment is, Akinsoji is not save in Nigeria and needed an asylum in America. He is a peace loving personality and an easy going politician who believes in fair politicking and democracy.
As a Nigerian, he has all the right to belong to any political party of his choice which did not give anybody or any association any reason to hunt him down.
His decision to team up with the Labour Party and worked assiduously for the party does not point to the fact that he hates anyone or detests the best for the state and therefore does not warrant his death. He must be left alone to activate his political prowess with any party of his choice.
According to Akinsoji as quoted “I was informed twice that political thugs came to look for me to kill me but unfortunately for them, I was in America and assuming they met me at home, I would have been killed.
I am a Ward Chairman of the Labour Party in Ijede, Ikorodu and the party defeated the ruling APC at the last election in Lagos State
Presently, my name rings bell everywhere and that is why I want to stay here (US) for protection because I’m not save if I go back to Nigeria.”
This is however a clarion call to the Nigerian security agencies including the police, the DSS amongst others. It is unjust that a man whose brother Akinwunmi Ambode performed meritoriously as Lagos State Governor for four years could be on a wanted list of political killers simply for proving his political clout even with his absence. He should rather be respected and invited for an open door politicking and governance rather than being assassinated.
