Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), undertook a health assessment at Premium Kidney Hospital, a private medical facility in Nnewi, Anambra State on Saturday.
During his visit, Mr. Obi praised the founder of the hospital, Dr. Okey Chidolue, for his visionary approach and commitment to the healthcare sector in order to save lives.
He expressed his gratitude to the hospital’s staff, management, and the wider Nnewi medical community for their commendable efforts in addressing the widespread challenges posed by kidney failure and for their contributions towards enhancing medical tourism within Nigeria.
Dr. Chidolue, while thanking Mr. Obi for taking the time to visit the medical facility, emphasized that kidney failure is a preventable cause of death that affects people of all ages, economic backgrounds, and social statuses. He stressed the need for a national kidney strategy and public contributions to address the issue.
“Kidney failure has two primary treatment options: hemodialysis and kidney transplant. Unfortunately, both options are prohibitively expensive. A single hemodialysis session costs around N40,000.00, with the gold standard being three sessions per week for a relatively normal life. At N120,000.00 per week, only a few individuals can afford treatment without government intervention or private philanthropy,” explained Dr. Chidolue.
He highlighted the efforts of Premium Kidney Hospital in Nnewi, led by Dr. (Mrs) Nene Chidolue, to alter this unfavorable situation. The hospital is dedicated to providing efficient and affordable kidney disease management, contributing to the well-being of the community.
Mr. Peter Obi’s visit to Premium Kidney Hospital serves as an endorsement of their mission and a call for greater attention to medical care. This gesture is greatly appreciated by the dedicated healthcare professionals at the hospital who are working tirelessly to offer quality care. For those who are familiar with Mr. Obi’s leadership style from his time as Governor of Anambra State, this exemplary commitment is consistent with his track record.
